Safety tips
In an emergency, call local emergency services first, then tell us through the
app. 112 reaches emergency services in the EU and many other countries (and
works from most mobile phones); check the local number when you arrive somewhere new.
Before you meet
- Meet in public. Cafés, parks, coworkings and busy bars beat private homes or remote spots, especially the first time.
- Tell someone. Share where you're going and who you're meeting with a friend, and check in afterwards.
- Look at the profile. A clear photo, a bio and trips that make sense are good signs. Missing details or pressure to meet somewhere private aren't.
- Keep chatting in NomadTwin. It keeps a record, and blocking and reporting work there. Swap numbers or socials only once you're comfortable.
- Plan your own way there and back. Know how you'll get home, and keep your phone charged.
- Check the place. Look up the venue, opening hours and anything unusual about the area or local rules.
While you're out
- Trust your instincts. You can leave at any time, for any reason. You don't owe anyone an explanation.
- Watch your drink and keep an eye on your belongings, cards and passport.
- Know your limits. Don't let alcohol or anything else put you in a position you wouldn't choose sober.
- Stay with the group if you don't know people well, and be wary of anyone trying to separate you.
- Don't get into a car or go home with someone you've just met if anything feels off.
Online safety
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or bank details to people you've met on NomadTwin, whatever the story.
- Protect your personal details: home address, workplace, passport or ID photos, and your exact travel plans.
- Be careful with links and anyone who quickly moves the conversation elsewhere or asks for verification codes.
- Watch for romance scams: intense flattery, excuses for never meeting, and sudden emergencies that need money.
Traveling tips
- Laws and social norms differ between countries, including on alcohol, dress, public affection and LGBTQ+ people. Check them before you go.
- Save your country's embassy contacts and your accommodation address offline.
- Share your trip dates with someone at home.
After meeting
- If someone made you uncomfortable, block them. You'll stop seeing each other in the app.
- If someone broke our Community guidelines, report them from their profile, a message, or the chat info screen. Reports are private.
- If something serious happened, contact the local police, and keep screenshots of messages that might help.
